use of cell phone during recording

I have the F800 and when i get into my vehicle It all connects GPS and starts continuous recording however,  for the cell phone wifi part.  I press the wifi on the F800 then it tells me to connect to wift name Thinkware3.  Do i need to use this in order for the camera to record?  Can it record without doing this?
