Internet location Remote Viewing
Hi i am confused on what is required to get the location of your car remotely via your phone..
Sorry to be dim but the term hotspot confuses me...
How does the u1000 connect to your phone to let you know where the u1000 is located?
Is it an extra device ??? (like a gps locator with sim card which needs a monthly subscription?)
Ok so i have a smart phone with data ..i have downloaded the thinkware cloud app !! What next do i need to do or register??
In normal circumstances my phone would not be in hotspot i have an iphone ...do i need to keep the personal hotspot button ON all the time in settings on the phone?
IF i turn personal hotspot off on my mobile settings .....when turning back on does my phone need to be physically next to the dash cam???

Hello Andrew,
To use the Cloud Features the Dash Cam itself must be connected to a Smartphone's Hotspot, Vehicle Hotspot or Hotspot Device at all times. This provides the camera access to the internet to relay the data to the second smartphone.
When the Dash Cam is connected via Hotspot, as long as you are logged into the account registered, you will be able to use the Cloud Features.
To register, create an account in the Thinkware Cloud App. Click the link in the Confirmation Email to confirm the account. Lastly, connect to the Dash Cam via Hotspot to complete the registration.
This is well and good, but this requires the driver to have a phone with a hotspot and manually connected to the Dash Cam via the App. This is because the Dash Cam won't automatically remember connections and connect to them when started. So if 2 or more people drive the same car, its a manually connect process.
The real question was is a separate dedicated HotSpot needed and it would seem facilitate the automated connection, the answer to that question is YES!
I just bought a new U1000 system and had it installed by Car Toys (April '22) for over $1000. All these same problems (and more) still exist and Car Toys seem to be as frustrated as I am. If they can't resolve this I will be returning the system and going back to the $59 camera that has worked flawlessly for 3 years.
