Upgrade Q800 Pro to U1000

Verne Arase

Has anyone upgraded the Q800 Pro dual channel to the new U1000 dual channel yet?

If so, are the rear camera mounts identical?

IOW, can you rotate the Q800 Pro rear camera module in the Q800 Pro mount, detach it, and simply insert the rear camera module from the U1000 (to keep from having to remove the Q800 Pro rear camera and then mounting the U1000 rear camera)?

I realize the Q800 Pro and the U1000 are cable compatible, but I was wondering if the rear cameras were mount compatible.

Just to answer my question - yes, they are mount compatible.

Just rotate the Q800 rear camera so the lens is pointed away from the adhesive mount plate and the camera module can be extracted and replaced with the U1000 rear camera module. Go into Live View, rotate the camera to the proper position, plug in the cable and you're good to go.

Anyone notice that Thinkware support has been extremely quiet lately?

... or maybe they're just tired of hearing from me ... 😏?

Hello Verne, We sincerely apologize for the delay in response. The Q800PRO and U1000 Rear Camera's have the same MicroUSB Connections, however, you will need to remove the entire Q800PRO Rear Cam to replace with the U1000. Detaching the Rear Cam from its built-in mount risks damage to rear cam itself.

Too late ... when I didn't hear back I replaced the rear cam in about a minutes without incident in the old mount.

Nothing had to be forced - just rotate the camera module so the camera lens faces away from the mount's adhesive, slide the Q800 rear camera module out, orient the U1000 rear camera in the same fashion, slide it in to the mount, and rotate the lens so  it points where needed.
