Good installation instructions, BUT... what were you thinking when it comes to installing the new DLC bracket?
- Edited
The instructions for installing my DC-E1-FG dashcam harness first had me undo 2 nuts and drop-down the OEM DLC port/connector, which is fine. After connecting all of the required plugs between the original DLC connector and the Thinkware harness, I was then instructed to mount the new bracket (for the Thinkware DLC), by doing the following (and I'm paraphrasing here):
"Install the new bracket by putting the left-hand hole of the new bracket over the original left-hand threaded mounting post, and attach it using one of the nuts you previously removed.
THEN, ATTACH THE RIGHT-HAND SIDE OF THE BRACKET BY DRILLING A HOLE UNDER THE DASH, USING THE INCLUDED SELF-TAPPING SCREW".
So, my question is this: WHY didn't you just make the new bracket about an inch wider (as the original one is), so that all the customer has to do is to install it over both of the existing studs, re-using both of the existing OEM mounting nuts?
I'm scratching my head over this, as it took me over an HOUR just to put together the right combination of angled drill and short drill bit, to then struggle to drill upwards to create a mounting hole, all while trying to get said drill and bit to fit under the very tight lower space under the dash. And, no, there was no self-starting screw included in my parts package, either.
Your mounting bracket is only made of plastic; how many more pennies would it have cost just to have it made slightly wider, enough to match the existing studs under the dash?
Disappointingly, you made what should have been a 1-minute "attaching the bracket" step into a one-hour step for me... all because your engineering failed to make this one step of the installation easy and logical.
Other than this one time-consuming poor-design oversight on your part, everything else went well, but the waste of my time and the extra effort required to mount a simple plastic bracket was foolish and totally unnecessary...
