Thinkware U1000 Overheat / Shutdown

Gary Gembala

My U1000 shutdown during a long drive last weekend.  Upon touching the unit is was extremely hot.  At the advise of the seller I have replaced the sd card, upgraded the software and checked the wiring.  No change and over the last two days I measured the unit at 165 F.  Not good.  I have a request into Thinkware service.  And I have an extended warranty, but wth?   Extremely concerned.

    Hello Gary,

We are sorry to hear that this issue is occurring with your U1000 Dashcam.

    The dashcams temperature specifications are,

    Storage Temperature:   -20°~ 70°C (-4°~ 158°F)
    Operating Temperature:   -10°~ 60°C (14°~ 140°F)

If the dashcam goes over these temperatures it can overheat and overheating issues can occur.

Please reach out to our support team, we would like to help troubleshoot and help with the issue!

    Thank you!

I have the same issue with the camera i bought in 2021. The camera is messing up badly now. It will suddenly stop working, then reboots and shuts back down a few minutes later.

From 2021 until last week, it ran fine, as long as it's not summer time with the hot sun beating down on the windshield, where the camera sits. But on warm days, in the high 80s and above, if this camera is exposed to direct sunlight it will overheat and shut down. It gets REALLY hot. Cranking the AC defrost up full blast helps, but it will eventually overheat. Takes about 30 minutes after driving into the sun on a warm summer day.

There is no fixing this, it's a design flaw. The unit runs hot as a normal function, then add a hot sun for the eventual overheat condition; it just cannot handle the heat.

Maybe Thinkware figured out this  flaw and have made some design or component changes to remedy it?
