My new X700 cam records at 20 sec segments with a 15 to 30 minute lapse in between. Is that normal? The manual says it will continuously record. Not set correct or a bad camera?

Your camera should be recording in 1-minute segments with no missing time in between.
Please try the following steps to troubleshoot your camera:
1. Try using a different SD card
2. Format and re-update your firmware on your current card
3. Reset the camera and re-update all settings within the app
