How to Install the Thinkware OBD-II Power Cable

The OBD-II Power Cable will allow the installation of a THINKWARE Dash Cam into any vehicle*. This kit was designed to simplify installation and ensure seamless integration for enabling the built-in Parking Surveillance Mode in your THINKWARE Dash Cam.

When to Use the OBD-II Power Cable

If installing the hardwiring cable to the fuse box is difficult—whether because the fuse box is located in a hard-to-access area or simply because the installation process itself is challenging—you can use the OBD-II power cable for a much easier setup.

How to Install the Thinkware OBD-II Power Cable

1. For gasoline vehicles, set the switch to F(fuel). For electric or hybrid vehicles, set the switch to EV(Electric Vehicles).

2. To enable Parking Mode, set the switch to P. To disable Parking Mode, set the switch to D.

3. Locate the OBD-II port. The OBD-II port is usually located below the dashboard on the left side, close to the driver’s knee area

* refer to your vehicle’s manual to find the exact port location.

4. Match the shape of the OBD-II connector with the port and plug it in firmly.

5. When properly connected, the LED on the OBD-II power cable will light up.

6. Connect the OBD-II power cable to the dash cam and confirm that the dash cam powers on normally.

7. Turn off the vehicle engine and check whether the dash cam switches to Parking Mode.

Parking Mode Time Requirements:

The OBD-II power cable uses both vehicle voltage changes and the G-Sensor to determine whether to enter Parking Mode.
Time required before entering Parking Mode:

  • Gasoline vehicles: Parking Mode Standby Time (default 30 sec, adjustable to 1–5 minutes) PLUS additional ~5 minutes
  • EV/Hybrid vehicles: Parking Mode Standby Time (default 30 sec, adjustable to 1–5 minutes) PLUS additional ~10 minutes
