[App] How to Update the Firmware

What is updating firmware? 

A firmware update will upgrade your dash cam with updated operational instructions without needing any upgrade in hardware. 

Firmware updates are released to improve the functions of our dash cams. Firmware updates can enhance the dashcam’s capabilities or fix ongoing issues.

Firmware updates are frequently used for troubleshooting purposes if an issue occurs with the dashcam.

By updating the device's firmware, the dash cam’s current firmware is erased and replaced.

How to Update the Firmware via the THINKWARE DASH CAM LINK App

1. Open THINKWARE DASH CAM App and click "Connect to the Dash Cam"

2. Once connected, the app will show a prompt to "Download the latest firmware" if there is an available firmware update. Hit the "Download" button.

[Caution] You may be charged for data usage if you use 3G or LTE.

3. Wait for the firmware download to finish.

4. When finished downloading, you will see a message that the "Latest firmware files are available. Do you wish to update?" Hit "OK"

[Notice] In some firmware versions, the dash cam settings may be reset to default, and updating will stop recording.

5. You will see a message: "Switching to a Wi-Fi network to use the feature. Continue?". Hit "Continue" 

**Applies only to non-LCD models**
For models with an LCD, Wi-Fi is established during the initial connection.

6. The screen will show a message: "DashCamLink" Wants to Join Wi-Fi Network "Thinkware_xx"? Hit "Join" button.

7. Wait a few minutes while firmware upgrade is in progress.

Ensure the Dash Cam stays powered on for the duration of the update.
*If powered off during the update, this may cause a fatal error to the dash cam.

8. Upgrade Complete! Connection will be disabled while device restarts. This will take a few minutes.

You can also do a manual firmware update.

1. clicking the "More" icon on the bottom right corner of your screen (), 

2. Go to 'Support' then click "Update Firmware"

3. The screen will show/give the option to download the latest firmware for your dash cam model. Click on 'Firmware Download'.

Ensure the Dash Cam stays powered on for the duration of the update.
*If powered off during the update, this may cause a fatal error to the dash cam.

Once you hear “Update Complete, Continuous Recording will now start” “Please have a safe drive today”, you are safe to power off or use the Dash Cam regularly. 

You have successfully updated the Firmware of your Dash Cam!
