Dash cam says "Have a safe drive" while driving

This article helps you check for power interruptions when your THINKWARE dash cam repeats startup messages such as “Have a safe drive” while you are driving.

Note: If you see "Dash Cam not responding" while connecting via Wi-Fi or Hotspot, check that you selected the correct mobile app for your model. See Which THINKWARE Mobile app do I use?

Note: If you hear "Have a safe drive today" or "Continuous recording will now start" while driving, check for brief power interruptions from OBD-II or fuse voltage fluctuations.

Already tried some steps? Jump to:

1.   Test with an Alternate Power Cable

2.   Inspect OBD-II Port Voltage and Re-seat Connector

3.   Switch to Hardwiring Cable

Test with an Alternate Power Cable

Required tools: THINKWARE 12V Car Charger Cable.

Note: Repeated startup prompts while driving can accompany intermittent voltage drops. A 12V Car Charger Cable helps you compare operation with the installed OBD-II or Hardwiring Cable.

Don't have a 12V Car Charger Cable available? Skip directly to Inspect OBD-II Port Voltage and Re-seat Connector below.

1. Temporarily power the dash cam using a standard 12V Car Charger Cable plugged into the vehicle's auxiliary power outlet.

2. If the power interruptions stop during long drives, inspect the original power harness or OBD-II Power Cable for voltage drops or connection problems.

Inspect OBD-II Port Voltage and Re-seat Connector

Temporary voltage fluctuations or loose diagnostic-port contacts can interrupt power when using an OBD-II Power Cable on long drives.

1. For the old OBD-II Power Cable without selector switches, disconnect and reconnect the connector three consecutive times to reset the connection. This procedure does not apply to the new OBD-II Power Cable with selector switches.

2. For Echomaster OBD-II Power Cables, verify that the IGN-3F module LED remains solid state while driving.

Switch to Hardwiring Cable

If momentary power drops persist during long drives on an OBD-II Power Cable, replace the OBD-II Power Cable with a standard Hardwiring Cable connected directly to the vehicle fuse box.

For installation details, see How to install an OBD-II Power Cable or How to install a Hardwiring Cable.

None of the above worked

If you have checked the power cables, tested without the microSD card, disconnected accessories, updated firmware, reset the dash cam, and allowed it to cool, but the issue continues, please contact THINKWARE support.

For warranty or technical evaluation information, see About THINKWARE's warranty policy.
