My voice prompts sound distorted or in another language

This article helps you troubleshoot distorted or foreign-language voice prompts from your THINKWARE dash cam.

Note: System voice prompts and button chime volume controls are entirely separate from cabin audio recording settings. If your recorded video files lack cabin audio but the dash cam speaker functions normally, please refer to My video has missing or distorted audio.

If your dash cam speaks in a language other than English (such as Korean or Spanish) or speaks incomprehensible, garbled voice fragments, follow the language reconfiguration steps below.

Already tried some steps? Jump to:

1.   Check Your Model's Voice Language Settings

2.   Download Model-Specific Language Firmware Version

Check Your Model's Voice Language Settings

Note: Changing the dash cam's language setting also changes its voice prompts to the selected language.

1. Check your model's user guide for a device voice-language setting.

2. If your model supports a voice-language setting, open that setting using its documented app or on-screen menu.

3. Select your preferred voice language from the available options.

4. Save the setting and trigger a voice prompt to check the result. If no device voice-language setting is available, continue to check the firmware below.

Download Model-Specific Language Firmware Version

Required tools: PC or Mac with a suitable card slot, or a compatible card reader or adapter.

Certain legacy or regional dash cam models hold dedicated English vs. International firmware builds.

1. If your model has no device voice-language setting, or changing it does not resolve the issue, open the official THINKWARE Downloads page on a PC or Mac and select your exact dash cam model.

2. Select the firmware for your region and confirm its supported voice language before downloading. If the correct build is unclear, contact THINKWARE support.

Caution: Back up important recordings before preparing the card. Keep the dash cam powered on throughout the firmware update.

3. Power off the dash cam, remove its microSD card, and connect it to the computer. Back up your videos, format the card, unzip the firmware download, and copy all files from the firmware folder to the card's root (not inside another folder).

4. Safely eject the microSD card, insert it into the powered-off dash cam, and turn it on. Keep power connected until you hear “Update Complete, Continuous Recording will now start”.

For detailed instructions, see How to update your dash cam’s firmware.

The table below summarizes speaker diagnostic causes and required corrective actions.

Audio Symptom Possible Contributing Factor Required Action
Complete Silence (No Beeps/Prompts) Muted adjustable announcements or a temporary audio-system issue Set Volume to High in app; perform factory reset
Foreign Language Prompts Incorrect language setting or regional firmware Check the model's device voice-language setting; verify model and regional firmware
Crackling / Static Noise Vehicle ground-loop noise or speaker output issue Compare with a 12V Car Charger Cable; check the existing ground connection if noise stops
Silent Boot After Firmware Update Interrupted update or an audio-system issue after firmware installation Update through the supported app; see the firmware article for other methods

None of the above worked

If you have checked volume, reset the dash cam, updated firmware, checked language settings, and tested with a 12V Car Charger Cable, but silence or crackling continues, please contact THINKWARE support.
