This article helps you troubleshoot Failed to Export messages or missing phone permissions in your THINKWARE app.
Phone permissions, a missing photo album, video playback compatibility, wireless interference, or overwritten files can affect video access.
Note: THINKWARE mobile apps do not automatically store dash cam footage in the cloud or phone memory. All video files remain stored on the dash cam's microSD card until you connect via Wi-Fi and explicitly export them to your smartphone's camera roll. Overwritten video files cannot be recovered.
If you see "Failed to Export" or cannot save a downloaded clip to your camera roll, check these settings.

1. Grant Photo Library and Local Network Permissions in Phone Settings
2. Re-create "ThinkwareDashCam" Album in Photos App
3. Re-install Mobile App and Allow All Initial Permissions
Grant Photo Library and Local Network Permissions in Phone Settings
1. Open your smartphone's [Settings].
2. Scroll down and select your THINKWARE mobile app (THINKWARE DASH CAM LINK app or THINKWARE CLOUD app).
3. For iOS (iPhone):
- Tap [Photos] and select [Full Access] (or [All Photos]).
- Enable [Local Network] and set [Location] to [While Using the App].
4. For Android:
- Tap [Permissions] > [Photos and Videos] (or [Storage]) and select [Allow].
- Enable [Nearby Devices] and [Location] permissions.
5. Re-open the app, navigate to [Downloaded Videos] (or [File List]), and attempt to export the file again.
Re-create "ThinkwareDashCam" Album in Photos App
1. Open your smartphone's default [Photos] or [Gallery] app.
2. Check if an album named "ThinkwareDashCam" (or "Thinkware Dash Cam") exists.
3. If the folder is missing, create a new photo album titled "ThinkwareDashCam".
4. Re-export the video from the THINKWARE mobile app to automatically populate the newly created folder.
Re-install Mobile App and Allow All Initial Permissions
1. Delete the THINKWARE mobile app from your smartphone.
2. Restart your smartphone to clear temporary cache files.
3. Redownload the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
4. Launch the app and tap [Allow All] on every permission prompt ([Location], [Local Network], [Photos], [Storage]).
None of the above worked
If downloads or exports still fail after checking permissions, exporting, testing gallery playback, disabling CarPlay and VPN, and checking the card, contact THINKWARE support.
Required tools: PC or Mac with a suitable card slot, or a compatible card reader or adapter if needed (for copying files directly from the card).
If you urgently need incident footage and the app cannot export it, turn off the dash cam, remove its microSD card, and connect it to a PC or Mac using a suitable card slot or reader. Copy the MP4 files directly.
