My phone disconnects immediately or shows "No Internet"

This article helps you troubleshoot immediate disconnections or No Internet messages when connecting your phone to a THINKWARE dash cam.

The selected app, phone permissions, Wi-Fi switching settings, frequency band, saved password, VPN, and phone network settings can affect the connection.

Note: The THINKWARE DASH CAM LINK app Wi-Fi network is a direct media communication link between your smartphone and the dash cam. It does not provide cellular internet access. Messages such as "No Internet Connection" or "Internet may not be available" in your smartphone's Wi-Fi settings is normal and expected.

Keep the phone screen on during connection and file transfer. A direct dash cam Wi-Fi connection is different from a phone hotspot used for THINKWARE CONNECTED.

If your smartphone connects to the dash cam Wi-Fi network but disconnects immediately, drops connection when you lock the phone screen, or reports "Weak Security / No Internet", follow the OS-specific network safeguard steps below.

1.   Disable iOS Wi-Fi Assist (iPhone)

2.   Disable Android Smart Network Switch (Switch to Mobile Data and Switch to Better Wi-Fi)

3.   Reset Smartphone Network Settings

Disable iOS Wi-Fi Assist (iPhone)

Wi-Fi Assist may switch to cellular data when the dash cam's Wi-Fi has no internet connection.

1. Open [Settings] > [Cellular] (or [Mobile Data]).

2. Scroll down to the very bottom of the menu.

3. Toggle [Wi-Fi Assist] to [Disabled] ([OFF]).

4. Reconnect to your THINKWARE dash cam Wi-Fi network.

Disable Android Smart Network Switch (Switch to Mobile Data and Switch to Better Wi-Fi)

Why this matters: Android's Smart Network Switch (also known as Adaptive Wi-Fi, Switch to Mobile Data, or Avoid Bad Wi-Fi Connections) detects that the dash cam Wi-Fi has no internet and automatically disconnects from it.

1. Open [Settings] > [Connections] > [Wi-Fi].

2. Open [Intelligent Wi-Fi] in the [Wi-Fi] settings.

3. Toggle [Switch to Mobile Data] (or [Adaptive Wi-Fi]) and [Switch to Better Wi-Fi] to [Disabled] ([OFF]).

4. If a system pop-up appears stating "Wi-Fi has no internet access, stay connected?", tap [Yes] / [Keep Connected].

Reset Smartphone Network Settings

Caution: Resetting network settings will clear all saved Wi-Fi passwords, Bluetooth paired devices, and VPN profiles on your smartphone. Depending on your phone, other settings may also be affected. Review the reset confirmation screen before proceeding.

If disconnections continue, reset your phone's network settings.

iOS

Go to [Settings] > [General] > [Transfer or Reset iPhone] > [Reset] > tap [Reset Network Settings].
