I received a Wi-Fi authentication error

This article helps you troubleshoot a THINKWARE dash cam Wi-Fi authentication error.

The selected app, phone permissions, Wi-Fi switching settings, frequency band, saved password, VPN, and phone network settings can affect the connection.

Note: The THINKWARE DASH CAM LINK app Wi-Fi network is a direct media communication link between your smartphone and the dash cam. It does not provide cellular internet access. Messages such as "No Internet Connection" or "Internet may not be available" in your smartphone's Wi-Fi settings is normal and expected.

Keep the phone screen on during connection and file transfer. A direct dash cam Wi-Fi connection is different from a phone hotspot used for THINKWARE CONNECTED.

If your phone or app rejects the dash cam Wi-Fi password, follow the Wi-Fi authentication steps below. THINKWARE CONNECTED account and registration errors are handled separately.

Already tried some steps? Jump to:

1.   Perform a Factory Reset on the Dash Cam

2.   Fix Authentication Error by Forgetting Wi-Fi Network

Perform a Factory Reset on the Dash Cam

If pairing does not work, use the Factory Reset method for your model.

Caution: A factory reset erases files on the microSD card and restores factory settings, including the Wi-Fi password. Back up important videos first.

Follow the reset method for your model:

  • U3000 PRO, U3000: Press and hold the REC and MIC buttons together until the dash cam beeps.
  • Q200: Press and hold the Wi-Fi and REC buttons together until the dash cam beeps.
  • LCD models: Use the reset option in the on-screen settings menu.

For model-specific buttons and menus, see How to Reset your Dash Cam.

Fix Authentication Error by Forgetting Wi-Fi Network

1. If you see "Authentication Error", check the saved [Wi-Fi] password.

2. Go to your phone's [Wi-Fi Settings], select the Thinkware_ network, and tap [Forget This Network].

On iPhone, if the dash cam network is saved but not currently connected, open [Settings] > [Wi-Fi] > [Edit], tap the information button next to the Thinkware_ network, then tap [Forget This Network] > [Forget].

3. Re-select the network and carefully re-enter the default password 123456789.

Caution: A factory reset erases recordings and restores factory settings. Back up important videos before resetting.

4. If the Wi-Fi password was changed and forgotten, follow Perform a Factory Reset on the Dash Cam above to restore the default password (123456789).

For ownership errors, see My app shows "This dashcam has already been registered".

For registration-number errors, see My app says "Check the certification number and try again".

None of the above worked

If the app still cannot connect after checking compatibility, permissions, wireless vehicle connections, network switching, VPN, and both reset procedures, contact THINKWARE support.
