My rear camera video appears upside down

This article explains how to correct upside-down rear camera recordings using the installation checks and correction method supported by your model.

Note: When connecting or disconnecting the rear camera cable, always power off the dash cam main unit first by unplugging the main power cable. Plugging in the rear camera while the front camera is actively powered will trigger a system restart and announce, "Rear camera connected, the system will now restart".

If recorded video footage from your rear camera plays upside down in the mobile app, PC Viewer, or computer video player, follow the orientation correction steps below.

1.   Check Physical Installation Orientation

Check Physical Installation Orientation

Required tools: Plastic trim removal tool (only if remounting the rear camera).

1. Inspect the physical orientation of the rear camera mounted on your rear windshield.

Follow the rear-camera installation guide for your model. Mount the rear camera upright and check the THINKWARE logo direction specified for that camera. Do not apply a single mounting rule to every rear camera.

2. Check whether the camera body is installed upside down. Use a newly recorded rear video to confirm the orientation; the live display alone is not sufficient.

3. If installed upside down on a model without software rotation, gently peel the adhesive mount off the glass using a trim removal tool, rotate the camera body 180 degrees, apply fresh 3M VHB mounting tape, and re-mount.

Check the Correction Method for Your Model

Only use the app correction method on a model listed below as supporting a recorded-video flip. A mirror setting or a corrected LCD view does not necessarily correct the saved rear recording.

1. Turn on the dash cam and open the compatible mobile app for your model.

2. Connect using the connection method supported by your model.

3. Select [Dash Cam Settings] > [Camera Settings] in the compatible app.

4. Find [Rotate Rear Camera]. Use this setting only for a model confirmed to support correction of saved rear recordings.

5. Select [Enabled] or [Disabled] under [Rotate Rear Camera] to make the rear image upright.

6. Tap the back arrow to save the setting. The linked example uses the arrow at the top-right; follow the save control shown in your app.

7. Record and play a new rear video to confirm the image is upright.

Use the correction method for your model group.

None of the above worked

If you have reseated both cable ends, checked the rear camera input port, F/R orientation, pinch points, compatibility, and image rotation, but disconnection prompts or a black screen continues across restarts, please contact THINKWARE support.
