This article helps you troubleshoot dark or overexposed nighttime recordings from your THINKWARE dash cam.
If nighttime video footage appears pitch black, overly dark in unlit areas, or washed out by headlight glare, follow the low-light optimization steps below.
Already tried some steps? Jump to:
1. Enable Super Night Vision Mode
2. Enable High Dynamic Range (HDR)
Enable Super Night Vision Mode
1. Open the THINKWARE DASH CAM LINK app > [Dash Cam Settings] > [Camera Settings] (or [Record Settings]).
2. Tap [Super Night Vision] (or [Night Vision]).
3. Select your preferred operating mode: [Continuous Mode], [Parking Mode], or [Continuous+Parking].
If nighttime recordings are too dark, enable Super Night Vision for the recording mode supported by your model. It helps improve visibility in low-light footage. For details, see What Is Super Night Vision?
Enable High Dynamic Range (HDR)
1. Open the THINKWARE DASH CAM LINK app > [Dash Cam Settings] > [Camera Settings] (or [Record Settings]).
2. Toggle [HDR] to [Enabled] (or [AUTO] on supported models like U3000 PRO, Q1000, ARC 700, X1000, F790).
HDR combines dark and bright exposures to reduce glare from headlights and streetlamps and improve license-plate visibility.
For settings and Super Night Vision restrictions, see HDR.
Note: On select dash cam models, enabling Super Night Vision in Continuous Mode will automatically disable HDR mode due to processing bandwidth limits.
None of the above worked
If you have checked resolution, cleaned the lens, tested HDR and Super Night Vision, formatted the microSD card, and checked audio settings, but the issue continues, please contact THINKWARE support.
